I Think I'm In Trouble...

It's December already? I told Peanut that we could put the decorations on the tree in December, so of course yesterday she asked me about it. Let it never be said that I do not honour my promises. I give you: Our Tree:

Every family has their own traditions. We're just starting to figure ours out. Last year was the first year that Peanut could really get involved, so I decided to let her pick out a special ornament that reflected her year. She picked a great one, this lovely ladybug (at the one of a kind show). This year, while shopping for gifts, we found another equally perfect ornament. I think it was just about a year ago that H decided to get her her first remote control helicopter. She took to it right away. You wouldn't think that a 2 year old could fly a remote control helicopter, but within a few days she was doing it on her own. We've been through several helicopters since that first one (she can fly it, but she sometimes lands them a bit hard or bumps them into the ceiling). I'm sure we'll go through many more (although her current one, a Spiderman helicopter, has lasted for quite a long time and is in no immediate danger). So we chose this helicopter to commemorate her interests for the year.The propeller even spins around.

The house looks cheerful and festive. Soon it will be time for latkes and preparing for our annual holiday party. This year will be the first year that children will be invited to the party. I'm starting it at 4pm and have a couple of activities planned. The kids will decorate a gingerbread house and then decorate their own cookies. I'm hoping I can convince a friend of mine to play Santa, but I'll have to see if he's willing (H thought it would be too much for him to do... he's in charge of the turkey).

As I said, there's a lot going on and things are busy. In the midst of all this, my baby, my little 7 week old baby keeps getting bigger and stronger every day. I visited a friend who had a baby last week. Her baby is 5 weeks younger than Pumpkin and I was amazed at the size difference. It has only been a few weeks... But that's nothing compared to the shock I had today while giving Pumpkin her "tummy time":




I'd like to request that she slow down just a wee bit. What's the rush? At 7 weeks she's already rolling over!

The Red Dress

Once in a while, I have a day that I know will stand out in my mind. Tantrums and bad moods will be forgotten, clouds will be wished away and all that will be rememberd is perfection.

Random Tuesday Thoughts: Pepper, it's what's for dinner!

Or lunch as the case may be...

But first, I'm tired. Not just regular tired, but extra crispy tired. Two hours in a row seems like a LONG stretch of sleep. I miss sleep. I have resorted to going to bed at 9pm so that I can get an extra hour here and there. It sucks because that used to be the time that H and I would spend together... and I guess we still do... only now it's in bed... but not in the fun way...

Peanut is sometimes so adorable it makes my heart melt. She noticed that we do not yet have any pictures of Pumpkin in the playroom. She has decided that we need to change that.

Sis got some "alone time" with Peanut last week. She wanted to show Peanut the windows (they're decorated for Christmas) but unfortunately, the figures in the windows were moving and had weird heads (a definite no-no for Peanut). I think she's still traumatized from my friend's house at Halloween because she freaked when she saw the windows. My poor sis didn't know what to do, so she just brought her inside. They bonded in the shoe section (Peanut loved the sparkly, fancy holiday shoes) and someone managed to con her Auntie into buying her a lollipop. You can't see it well in the pic, but it's roughly the size of Peanut's head. After their shopping spree, we met up for lunch and Peanut decided that she didn't feel like eating the food. She was, however, interested in the pepper. They had the pepper in a lovely little ceramic bowl at the table with a tiny wooden spoon. Peanut insisted on having some so I thought, why not? I thought that she would taste a little bit and hate it. Not my girl. She tried it, pronounced "I like it! I like spicy!" and helped herself to a heaping spoonful, which she joyfully ate. I had to stop her or she would have eaten all the pepper! Who knew pepper made for such a tasty lunch?

H worked late yesterday and I have to say I'm feeling pretty proud of myself. I managed to get both girls settled and ready for bed and even bathed all by myself. Yeah, I know to moms of many/single moms this doesn't seem all that spectacular, but the first time you do it... well, it felt good to me anyway. I don't know how you guys do it every day. I'm still figuring it out, but getting better!

Peanut has developed the rather annoying habit of wanting to "be a baby". Of course it's obvious where this comes from and I'm happy to play however she needs to but her version of "being a baby" seems to mean she "cries" all. the. time. It's odd because Pumpkin doesn't cry that often but... Can't she just want me to lift her and cuddle her? Because I'd be totally cool with playing THAT baby game. The crying one is getting on my last nerve.

Peanut has also become far more affectionate at night. When I do her bedtime routine, she gives me big hugs and kisses and isn't quite as stingy with them as she was before. Is it wrong that I kind of love that?

Pumpkin gave me lots of smiles this morning. The rewards of this job far outweigh the minor inconveniences/setbacks.

One Month

That's right baby...

Today this sweet little Pumpkin is one month old. There have been so many posts I have wanted to write in the last month, and I haven't. This little one has a bottomless stomach. It is virtually impossible for her to be full... at least for long. She has an incredibly fast metabolism and I'm constantly either feeding or cleaning up poop. Yeah, that's how you can tell that someone has a newborn. Right off the bat, they start talking about poop.

She is such a sweet baby. I have never heard a baby make so many sounds! She must have very intense dreams because she really does make a wide range of noises in her sleep. It's funny, but when she's hungry, her cries even sound as though she is saying "LAIT! LAIT!" ("MILK! MILK!" in French). I know it's not deliberate on her part, but it's really quite funny.

She has been smiling from practically the first day and they come all the time now. Her head and neck control is quite amazing. This week we had our checkup with the doctor and he mentioned it too. She has gained a pound and grown an inch in the last month, so clearly the "lait" is doing its job.
